Anonymous asked: I know that kinda weird but i don't want Fitz divorce Mellie now, she still loves him and he needs to see how she ruined herseld to him. I love the complexity of their romance triangle. I just want them to have some passionate-crazy-complex-heartbreaken twists before intense reunions. Do Olitz isn't supposed to be painful, difficult, life changing extraordinary love ? Don't get me wrong, I do love your blog, Vermont, kids and Jam.
That’s the thing - I too like the idea of Vermont and kids, but only five or so years in the future, but definitely not now. They’ve got shit to handle, the jam can wait.
But I don’t think the divorce can. To me the whole Mellie-Fitz-Olivia has become so tired and repetitive that something needs to change - and it ain’t going to be Fitz and Olivia getting over each other.
So Mellie needs to get out. I don’t understand people who love Mellie and support her but still want her with Fitz. If you think she’s strong and amazing, why aren’t you shoving divorce papers in her hands? Her relationship with Fitz is destructive and horrible. He’s been a dick to her, she’s manipulated him, their constant lies to keep the appearance of their marriage has not only hurt them, but everyone around them. Mellie needs to get away for her own sake, because otherwise she’ll just keep loosing all her authenticity, no matter how much she apparently ‘loves’ Fitz.
As for Olivia and Fitz though, I’m with you with the whole torturous star crossed lovers thing, in that they both try so desperately hard to be together and we’re made for each other but there is this giant insurmountable wall that separates them. That used to be the case but right now I just don’t see that wall. What is keeping Fitz from divorcing Mellie? The destruction of the Republic? That’s a very obtuse and imperceptible obstacle. Is it because if he divorces Mellie he’ll never be re-elected? They’ve seemed to have piled up enough shit against him to keep him from even getting elected as mayor of Detroit.
Right now the big dramatic wall between our lovers seems to be little annoyances and just muscle memory. Why aren’t they together? Because they can’t. Why can’t they? Because reasons. Well fuck reasons.
But yeah, it’s not like I’m not wanting them to already be married and happy - I’m down with them being back in each other’s lives and working together - but I just worry about the future. Will they make it that there is some big grand conspiracy as to why Fitz needs to be President, thus making it crucial for Olivia to join the re-election campaign and them being together and Mellie moving on with her own life… Or will it be the same tired path of Olivia and Fitz breaking up once more after one minute of happiness, then getting back together, then Mellie giving some hypocritical rant?
You know this group shares the spotlight equally when this happens…
